Comment on Why the United Methodist Church cannot condone homosexuality by Elainet the sin https://methodistthinker.com/2010/03/15/united-methodist-cannot-codone-homosexuality/#comment-18312 Mon, 06 Feb 2012 21:04:58 +0000 http://methodistthinker.com/?p=10581#comment-18312 Sin is sin. How can we single out the sin of homosexuality among all the behaviors in scripture as sin? Does an obese clergyperson who has been married 3 times have the right to say that a homosexual man or woman in a strictly monogamous relationship should not be ordained?

I think we need more voices like this to help guide the UM church away from the precipice of moral relativism and intellectual laziness.

United Methodists who pay attention to what is said and done by those ostensibly representing United Methodism in the Washington political realm are understandably apprehensive about the future of this denomination. Losing a source like MethodistThinker may represent one more nail in the coffin.

Comment on Farewell by Jonathan Carlsen https://methodistthinker.com/2011/07/25/farewell-for-now/#comment-18295 Sun, 31 Jul 2011 17:42:16 +0000 http://methodistthinker.com/?p=18583#comment-18295 This is a critical time and a busy time with the deadline for 2012 General Conference petitions less than two months away. Thanks for posting my comment on the Worldwide Nature of the Church amendments two years ago. Thanks also for providing the text of the amendments.

As a fellow Lay Speaker with a background somewhat parallel to yours and mutual friends among the Good News board members, I’ve long wished we could get together for direct discussions. It will happen here or in Heaven. Meantime, busy-ness expands to overflow the time available.

God bless you in your whatever confronts you in the coming weeks.

Grace and peace,

Jonathan Carlsen

Your blog has been a most informative and useful tool for Methodist communication. Many official communication outlets do not / will not cover the areas that you have done.

Maybe you don’t know how many people read these posts. I am sure your posts have helped many who do not take the time to respond.

Your site is now more needed than ever prior to the General Conference of 2012. May you be able to return sooner than you have anticipated.

I’m afraid your comment demonstrates what you supposedly condemn. Look up the psychological phenomenon known as “projection” and you might get a clue.

There’s been no hate here — just reasoned, Biblically-supported truth.

Or, is it having to look at that person in the mirror before you go to bed at night?

I looked forward to your tweets and shred each one with that group.

Please return as soon as you can. I will pray for you and miss you much!
